Automatic data cell formatting

Automatic data cell formatting is an option for templates when in data-entry mode.

You use formatting to show users the state of a cell for data entry:

  • not editable
  • editable
  • editable through top-down spreading

Add auto formatting

To add automatic cell formatting to a template:

  1. In Template Studio, select Options.
  2. Select the Data entry tab.
  3. Turn on Automatically format data cells based on ... and click Edit.

    The Automatic Data Cell Formatting dialog opens; each tab represents the format settings for a data-entry state.

  4. Define the format for any or all the states, and click OK.
  5. Click OK to close the Options dialog.

FAQ

What type of formatting can I specify with this option?

You can set the text (color, font, font size, style, effects) and the background color for data cells.

Does automatic cell formatting affect other cell formatting?

When automatic cell formatting is applied, all other formatting properties (for example: alignment and borders) remain unchanged.

How are the various types of data cell formatting resolved?

When a template is opened in data-entry mode, the formatting types are applied in the following order:

  1. Any regular, user-defined cell formatting.
  2. If automatic cell formatting is turned on, it overrides user-defined data cell formatting.
  3. If conditional formatting is turned on, it overrides any other formatting.
