Import Line Item Details process

The Import Line Item Details process imports a set of line item details from an Excel file to the target model. (Typically the Excel file was created through the Export Line Item Details process as part of a data migration from an existing model to a new model. An example of the export data.)

This process can also be used as an alternative to inputting line item details manually through Line Item Schedules.

Note:  Besides updating any existing line item details in the model, any new line item details contained in the import file are added to model. In all cases, the sums of the line item details replace cell values in the target member combinations.

  • Description: Optional. Up to 250 characters.
  • Target
    • Selectthe Model.
    • Download Import Template File: After you specify the target details, the Download button becomes active.

The template is an Excel file dynamically generated based on the model that you chose. The file contains the required format for importing line item details.

(Optional) If you want to create line item details using Excel, download the template file and add your line item details as described below.

  • Source:
    • File: Click to select your import file from within your Process Files drawer.
    • Select sheet from file: From the drop-down specify the Excel sheet that contains the import data.

To see the first ten rows of the import file, at the top right corner click Preview.

Add or edit the import data

Optionally, you can use Excel to edit or add line item detail data in an import file created through the Export Line Item Details process, or to add the data if you chose to download a blank template file. To do so, in the Excel sheet follow these conventions:

  • For columns associated with the target model's dimensions, always use the proper keys for the members
    • For example, assuming a calendar year, you would use 2021M01 and not January 2021.
  • Line item details are identified by the member combination plus the following elements:
    • Justification
    • Description
    • Notes

Note:  If any of these elements differ from the existing ones, the import process creates a new line item detail for the member combination.

Caution:  If multiple rows in your Excel sheet specify the same member combination, Justification, Description, and Notes, only the last row is imported.
