Drill into data
Drilling is a way to browse data structures, to see related data.
For example, "drilling down" shows:
- In a hierarchy, the members directly below the current member.
- In parent-child dimensions, the children of the current member.
- In level-based dimensions, the members directly below the current member.
- For example, in the Time dimension, drilling down from Year displays Quarter 1, Quarter 2, Quarter 3, and Quarter 4.
You call the various drilling functions from the Actions menu.
Drill Down Replace
All members in the row/column are removed and you see the children of the selected member.
- Select the row header and then Actions > Drill Down Replace.
Drill Down Replace With Total
All members in the row/column are removed and you see the selected member and its children.
- Select the row header then Actions > Drill Down Replace With Total.
Drill Up
The opposite of drilling down, drilling up shows you the parent of the selected member.
- Select the row or column header and then Actions > Drill Up.
Drill Across
Opens a data view to show the supporting data for a member combination.
Example: You could be using Ad Hoc Analysis to examine sales summary data from your sales model, and you could right-click a data cell and then select a data view that would connect to the relevant sales details, stored in a sales database outside FP&A. To save the data set, click Save as Excel. The workbook will be titled "FP&A Plus Drill Across Results".
- Select the cell and then Actions > Drill Across.
Drill to Detailed Planning
Opens a data view to show the supporting detailed planning data for a member combination.
Note: This option only appears if the current model is linked to a detailed planning model.)
Example: If you want to see which employees are included in the taxable benefits line in an income statement, drill through displays a data view showing the DPOs in the rows, Time in columns, and the other dimensions in pages.
- Select the cell and then Actions > Drill to Detailed Planning.
