Models and the detailed plan

The first step in implementing a detailed plan is to create a detailed planning model, using the New Model Wizard. As with a financial model, when you create a detailed planning model, you must also define its dimensions. After the model is complete, you will eventually post calculation results to it. Typically you create one model for each of your detailed plans; for example, one for personnel planning, another for CAPEX, and so on.

What are the types of detailed planning model? The available model types are as follows:

  • Detailed Planning (General)

A generic model meant to be customized for any detailed plan.

  • Detailed Planning (Personnel)

Identical to the generic model, but with all dimensions required for a personnel planning application highlighted, including employees, allocation, and geography. The Employee dimension is assigned the type Detailed Planning Object.

Can detailed planning data be copied to a finance model? Most users of detailed planning also use FP&A Plus for performance management, such as budgeting, analysis, reporting, and so on. In this case, you have the option of posting detailed planning results to your finance model as well. The only requirement is that this model contain certain shared dimensions.

Note:   For personnel planning, the two financial model types that the detailed planning model can communicate with by default are Generic and Financial Consolidation.
